Simple Hacks To Keep Your Mattress Clean
June 2, 2025 | Written by SleepyCat Team
Once we buy a good mattress, first comes the sigh of relief and happiness, then that mini panic attack: “How do I maintain this thing?” Buying a mattress is definitely a long-term investment. It is not like switching up pillow covers or upgrading your throw blanket. It then becomes your sleep haven, your sweet spot, your Netflix-and-do-nothing spot.
Hi, I’m Zie, and welcome back to another interesting edition of our What The Fluff series. Today, I am sharing some of the simplest yet most overlooked hacks on how to keep your mattress in good condition for a long time.
Why Does It Matter?
Let us break down some mattress facts real quick:
While you sleep, your body sheds dead skin cells, releases sweat and moisture that attracts dust mites (gross, I know). All of that gets absorbed right into the fabric of your mattress cover. And if you are not washing it regularly, you are not sleeping in a great spot.
Ideally, you should be washing your mattress cover every six months to maintain proper hygiene.
Mattress Maintenance Hacks You Wish You Knew Sooner
- Vacuum once a week: Use an upholstery attachment to your vacuum cleaner and clean your mattress cover at least once a week. You can even lightly vacuum the foam every 3-6 months. Think of it as a deep cleanse for your bed, minus the 12-step routine.
- Upgrade to a mattress with a zipper cover: If your mattress has a zipper cover, you are already ahead of the game. However, most of us do not wash that cover nearly enough. Why? Because it might look like a full-blown cardio sesh. Traditional zipper covers require you to lift, drag, flip, and wrestle your entire mattress just to get the cover off. And that is exactly why people put off cleaning their mattress covers, even though they absolutely should not.
- Wash the base-cover: Your base cover requires all the love and care too. Make sure you wash your base cover every 3-6 months. Maintaining basic sleep hygiene will not only benefit your mattress’s durability but will also keep you healthy.
Benefits Of The SleepyCat Ezie Zipper Cover
SleepyCat absolutely loves it when our customers are able to give their sleep full 8 hours of attention, and wake up thanking us for making their lives easier. That is why we made mattress maintenance doable with the Ezie Zipper Cover–and yes, it is as easy as it sounds.
Unlike traditional mattress covers that zip all the way around and require extra strength and patience, our Ezie Zipper Cover lets you just zip off the top white layer of the mattress. No heavy lifting. No dramatic sighs. No calling your buddy for backup.
It is literally as easy as zipping and unzipping a jacket: You need to just unzip the fabric, toss it in the wash and once it is all fresh and clean, you can zip it right back on.

Why Will You Love It?
You only need to wash the top portion, which is where all the dirt, sweat, and fluff-life build-up happens anyway. The base stays intact, the foam stays untouched, and your back stays unbothered. Win-win-win.
Our covers come in two variations: SoftTouch™ and CoolTEC™ fabrics. Both are removable, allowing you to maintain proper sleep hygiene.
At SleepyCat, we believe your mattress should work for you and not the other way around. That is why we created something that makes cleaning and maintaining your mattress as effortless as making your bed. It slowly becomes a ritual.
